The Daily Show is back after a short break, and Jon Stewart has clearly been thinking a lot about Donald Trump's "big beautiful bill", which was finally passed and signed into law despite the risk it poses to food assistance and health coverage, and the trillions it adds to the country's debt.

But Stewart's main issues on Monday weren't with the contents of the bill, but the way Republicans have been speaking about those most affected by it.

"It's this lazy, bullshit narrative that our finances are screwed because of how comfortable we have made it for the poor," Stewart says.

"The problem in our country isn't the sliver of able-bodied people that are somehow coasting on the unearned medical coverage they may or may not use, but the millions and millions of people in this country who work f***ing full-time jobs and still need food and medical assistance! That's the system that's broken! Fix that system!"
