Nintendo sold over 3.5 million Switch 2 consoles globally in four days, according to a company announcement on Wednesday.

Following the highly anticipated midnight launch of the Switch 2 on June 5, Nintendo said the result was "the highest global sales level for any Nintendo hardware within the first four days." According to IGN, the original Switch released in 2017 sold 2.74 million units in its first month.

Nintendo initially expected to sell approximately 15 million Switch 2 consoles by March 2026, but has since bumped the projection up to 20 million units.

The launch of the first Nintendo handheld console in eight years on June 5 saw gamers and tech enthusiasts queuing for hours outside stores including Target, Best Buy, and Walmart to collect their preorders. Not everyone had a gleeful launch day, however, as some customers reportedly found their screens were punctured inside the box.

Now, customers are opting to order the Switch 2 online or try their luck in person. The Switch 2 console retails for $449.99 and adding Nintendo's new Mario Kart World brings the price up to $499.99.

Mashable's Alex Perry has our review for the Nintendo Switch 2, and a comparison between the original Switch model and the new.
