Tired of premium headphones running $400 or more? Apparently so was Amazon, because heading into the end of the third day of Prime Day, they gave Sony's WH-1000XM5 a much bigger price drop than they started the sale with.

As of July 10, you can grab the black Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones for just $248, beating their previous record low of $249.99 that we saw for the first and only time in March. This an excellent deal on these headphones based on their own price history, which had them at $298 last Prime Day — the same price they've been sitting at for the first few days of this sale.

It's also great compared to the $428 sale price of the new XM6 headphones. While it's impressive the XM6s went on sale at all considering Sony released them in May, in my head to head comparison between the two pairs, I didn't find that the XM6s were drastically better than the XM5s — certainly not $180 better. You get the same general design, minus the folding ear cups of the XM6s, the same 30 hour battery life, excellent sound quality (though the XM6s are a touch warmer), very similar ANC, and a near-identical companion app.

If you've been waffling between the two and getting the best bang for your buck is a big priority, I recommend going for the XM5s at this sale price.
